Pastor

The Rev. Dr. Melissa Lynn DeRosia graduated from Alma College and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary with awards in the interpretation of scripture and Christian life. Following the completion of a chaplain residency program working with the spiritual needs of child and adolescent psychiatric patients, she received a call to serve as pastor of a congregation in Michigan.Currently, Melissa is the pastor and head of staff at Gates Presbyterian Church. In 2018 she received a doctorate in Ministry emphasis in Interfaith Dialogue and Peacebuilding. She lives with her husband Matt and two young daughters, Lillian and Norah in nearby Chili. Passionate and dedicated to follow God’s call in the changing landscape of the church, she has served as Moderator of the Presbytery of Lake Huron and as an elected member of the Presbyterian Church (USA) General Assembly Mission Council. Melissa is co-author of the book “The Girlfriends’ Clergy      Companion: Surviving and Thriving in Ministry” published by the Alban Institute in 2011.

Director of Children, Youth, and Young Adult Ministries

Jennifer Olsen
Jen has been a GPC’er for her entire life. She was an active participant in the youth program until graduation when she moved to Pennsylvania to attend Franklin & Marshall College. After completing a psychology bachelors, she went to SUNY Fredonia to earn a degree in music education and spent the following years teaching in Connecticut. Jen lives in the town of Greece with her husband, Ben, and their two wacky, adorable, wonderful children, Everett and Freya. The entire family has felt embraced by GPC since their move back to the area in 2015.
A note from Jen – “I am so excited to become the Director of Youth, Young Children, and Young Adult Ministries here at GPC. I grew up experiencing the awesome love of this congregation and am honored to answer the call to serve in this position.”

Adult and Youth Choir Director – Roy Smith

Roy Smith is a Rochester musician who plays 2nd trumpet in Symphoria (Syracuse, NY) and also performs regularly with the Rochester and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestras. He is on the faculty at Houghton College, the Hochstein School of Music and Lima Christian School. His training was at Roberts Wesleyan College and Northwestern University. He lives in Irondequoit with his wife Julie and their two sons.
